President Angela McKenzie
Dear ASU Alumni,
I am proud to serve as President of the Jefferson/Shelby County Chapter of the National Alumni Association of Alabama State University. Thank you to the membership for entrusting me with the leadership of this chapter. I look forward to working with the chapter to implement programs and activities that will help advance the mission of Alabama State University. The chartering of our chapter in 2012 represents the growth and interest we hope to continue throughout the Hornet Nation. To that end, I offer a special “Thank You” to Tyrone Webb for serving as the inaugural President of the chapter. Tyrone’s passion and enthusiasm for ASU should serve as an example for all of us to honor and give reverence to “Old Mother Dear.” I hope to continue the strong foundation that Tyrone and others laid for the chapter. I am excited about the progress being made at the University. From the appointment of the first female president, Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd, to the numerous accolades bestowed on our athletics division to the award-winning Department of Visual & Performing Arts, Alabama State is on the move.
As we enter the 2014-16 biennium, the Jefferson/Shelby County Chapter has a commitment to supporting all facets of Alabama State University. As such, we have established goals and objectives for the upcoming year to advance these ideas. Our goals for the year are:
• Increase chapter membership
• Provide educational support for current and prospective ASU students
• Support the athletics programs by attending games/events
• Establish a scholarship program to support the financial needs of students
• Establish partnerships with local high schools and ASU to identify prospective ASU students
The success of our chapter is not possible without your support. I encourage the alumni in Jefferson and Shelby Counties to join us as we continue the legacy of that Ole Bama State spirit. I look forward to an amazing year!!
IT’S A GREAT TIME TO BE A HORNET!!!
Sincerely,
Angela D. McKenzie, President
